Asbestos Management Surveys

BLS Asbestos have extensive experience in carrying out asbestos surveys across the UK in a wide range of environments and can help your organisation to fulfil its legal obligations in relation to asbestos management, as well as preparing for any demolition or renovation projects where an asbestos survey may be a necessity.

Why are asbestos surveys required before asbestos removal?

It can be very harmful to human health when breathing in asbestos fibres over an extended period of time (more about this can be read on the NHS website), which is the primary reason why asbestos containing materials were fully banned from use in the UK in 1999.

However, asbestos is commonly found in properties that were built or renovated before the year 2000.

If asbestos is left undisturbed then it is unlikely to pose any kind of threat, however some property owners like to have an asbestos survey carried out for the peace of mind of knowing that no asbestos containing materials are on their property, which eliminates any risk to the landlord or property manager.

An asbestos survey is designed to determine -

  1. The type of asbestos located within the property (if any), which will be assessed at a UKAS accredited laboratory.
  2. The location and volume of all asbestos containing material (ACM) within the property,
  3. The condition of the ACM materials.

The landowner will then be provided with a report of our findings and next steps recommended if required.

What happens after the asbestos survey?

If the material sampled within the surveyed property is determined to be ACM, then we will recommend that we plan an asbestos removal project around the needs of your project or business. The key aims of this plan are designed to ensure that we create as minimal disruption as possible, whilst also being able to safely and securely remove or encapsulate the asbestos.

We work within the confines of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and have numerous qualifications displaying are expertise and ability to operate legally within the UK.
