If you suspect you have asbestos in your industrial or commercial property in Beverley then get in touch through the contact form on this page and we can provide a quote for an asbestos survey before carrying out the removal of the asbestos if required.

If you are unsure whether it is asbestos in your property, or you would simply like to learn more information about what asbestos containing materials can look like, then please read on.

What do asbestos containing materials look like and why was it used in construction?

Asbestos was used widely across the construction sector due to its thermal and heat resistant properties, with a melting point at 871°C. However it soon became clear that inhaling asbestos fibres were dangerous to human life and so it was banned from use in the UK in 1999. If the property that you own or manage was built before the year 2000 then you should assume that it could contain asbestos.

This page has some great examples of where you are likely to find asbestos containing materials in your property, however some of the common areas we find asbestos when carrying out an asbestos survey includes -

  • Sprayed coatings, which are generally sprayed onto structural steel and concrete in areas of high fire risk (RICS has some good information on this).
  • Lagging on boilers and pipes.
  • Asbestos cement on flues, roofing, guttering and down pipes.
  • Partition boards
  • Loose fill insulation

If you suspect your property may contain asbestos inside or outside, get in touch with us and we will come over to Beverley to carry out an asbestos survey and determine what type of asbestos is in your property and whether it is licensable or non-licensable asbestos.

What qualifications are needed to remove licensable asbestos?

Licensable asbestos is a type of asbestos removal work that is labour intensive in environments where 0.1 asbestos fibres per cubic centimetre of air (0.1 f/cm3) are exceeded over a period of four hours.

Removing licensable asbestos is higher risk work and asbestos removal contractors require licenses to work with it. We have licences from both the HSE and Environment Agency to work with asbestos insulation board and asbestos insulation for the purpose of removal and transport hazardous products for the purpose of disposal. You can read more about these licences here  and read here to learn more about licensable and non-licensable asbestos removal work.

If you suspect that your industrial or commercial unit in Beverley may house asbestos containing materials then contact us through the form on this page and we will arrange for an asbestos survey to be completed, before safely removing any asbestos containing materials if required.
